LOCATION:Southwest Pacific Ocean, 600 miles northeast of New Zealand.

POPULATION:no permanent population, only weather/communications station
personnel on Raoul.
TYPE OF GOVERNMENT:administered by New Zealand.
MISC:The Kermadecs, a nature reserve, consist of four volcanic
islands-Raoul (largest, and also called Sunday Island), Macauley,
Curtis Islands; and L'Esperance Rock. Raoul is 11.3 square miles, rises
to 1,723 feet, and has a metrological/communications radio station. It
is also an active volcano and has up to 6 earthquakes daily. Curtis is
also an active volcano. All the islands are very rugged with difficult
landings.
